Southern Africa Youth Project Headquarters, 24–26 June 2025
From 24 to 26 June 2025, nonprofit leaders, youth practitioners, and development professionals gathered at the Southern Africa Youth Project headquarters in Johannesburg for the SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs Programme. The event provided three days of intensive workshops, strategy development, and leadership coaching designed to empower organizations making a difference across Southern Africa.
In a deeply reflective and motivating keynote address, SayPro CEO and leader of Development, Neftaly Malatjie, shared a guiding principle that captured the spirit of the programme:
“Every step you are taking, ask God first.”
Malatjie urged participants to lead not only with strategy and skills, but with spiritual clarity and moral integrity. He emphasized that the journey of leadership in the nonprofit and development space is full of complex decisions—and that divine guidance should be sought before every move.
“Whether you’re applying for funding, hiring staff, or designing a new project,” he said, “don’t walk alone. Ask God first. Let your leadership be grounded in faith, so that your actions are led by wisdom, not fear.”
The SayPro Capacity Building Programme offered sessions in:
- Leadership and values-based decision-making
- Strategic planning and risk mitigation
- Financial governance and donor reporting
- Digital tools for nonprofit growth
- Personal and spiritual resilience for leaders
Malatjie’s message served as a powerful reminder that leadership is as much about purpose as it is about performance. His words resonated with participants, many of whom reflected on the importance of aligning their professional decisions with their personal faith and values.
One participant shared, “That quote—‘Ask God first’—will stay with me. In the rush of running an organization, we often forget to pause and reflect. Neftaly reminded us that true leadership begins with humility and guidance from above.”
SayPro continues to support and uplift nonprofit organizations by combining practical training with leadership development rooted in ethics, accountability, and spirituality.
