Southern Africa Youth Project Headquarters, 24–26 June 2025
Over three impactful days from 24 to 26 June 2025, nonprofit leaders and professionals gathered at the Southern Africa Youth Project headquarters in Johannesburg for the SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs Programme. The training aimed to equip organizations with essential tools in governance, sustainability, digital transformation, and accountability.
One of the key takeaways came from SayPro CEO and leader of Development, Neftaly Malatjie, who stressed the importance of strong documentation and accountability practices in nonprofit operations.
“Keep reports for everything in your company,” said Malatjie. “Every meeting, every project, every cent spent should be recorded. It’s not just about compliance—it’s about creating a culture of transparency, responsibility, and professionalism.”
Malatjie emphasized that keeping detailed records is essential for donor trust, internal controls, legal compliance, and overall strategic management. He warned that many nonprofits suffer not because of a lack of funding, but due to poor documentation and weak reporting systems that hinder transparency and efficiency.
The SayPro training featured interactive sessions on:
- Financial and operational reporting for NPOs
- Monitoring and evaluation techniques
- Project documentation and impact assessment
- Audit readiness and donor compliance
- Data-driven decision-making for nonprofit success
Participants were introduced to practical tools and templates to improve their organizational reporting systems. From financial records and board meeting minutes to programme impact reports and risk logs, the training provided participants with a blueprint for creating a well-documented and accountable nonprofit.
One attendee shared, “I’ve always underestimated the importance of reporting. This training showed me that proper documentation is not a burden—it’s protection, proof, and power.”
The SayPro Capacity Building Programme continues to play a crucial role in strengthening the nonprofit sector across Southern Africa by empowering leaders with knowledge, systems, and strategies to improve their organizational performance and community outcomes.
