SayPro CEO Neftaly Malatjie Urges NPOs to “Element the Risks in Your Company” at Capacity Building Training Programme

Southern Africa Youth Project Headquarters, 24–26 June 2025

From 24 to 26 June 2025, nonprofit professionals and development leaders from across Southern Africa convened at the Southern Africa Youth Project headquarters in Johannesburg for the SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs Programme. Hosted by SayPro (Southern Africa Youth Project), the event provided vital training and strategic insights for nonprofit organizations looking to strengthen governance, improve efficiency, and expand their impact.

At the heart of the event, SayPro CEO and leader of Development, Neftaly Malatjie, delivered a bold message to NPO leaders:

“Element the risks in your company,” Malatjie stated. “If you do not identify, assess, and actively remove risk, your organization cannot grow. Whether it’s financial, operational, reputational, or strategic risk—you must put in place systems that protect the mission and people you serve.”

Malatjie emphasized that risk management is no longer optional for nonprofit organizations. In today’s complex social and economic climate, risk exposure can derail even the most promising initiatives. According to him, nonprofits must become as disciplined in their risk oversight as the private sector, using available tools and technologies to track vulnerabilities, prepare contingency plans, and build sustainable governance structures.

The SayPro Capacity Building Training included hands-on sessions in:

  • Financial and compliance risk management
  • Strategic planning and leadership
  • Governance frameworks for nonprofits
  • Digital transformation and cybersecurity for NGOs
  • Fundraising accountability and donor reporting

Participants were also introduced to risk assessment models, internal control mechanisms, and digital systems that can help NPOs monitor performance and reduce exposure to fraud or inefficiency.

The event was widely praised for offering relevant, action-oriented training tailored to the realities facing small to medium-sized nonprofit organizations. Many attendees left with new frameworks and digital tools they could implement immediately.

One participant reflected, “This training was a wake-up call. We don’t often think of risk until it’s too late. SayPro has shown us how to prevent crises before they happen.”

SayPro continues to drive excellence and sustainability across Africa’s nonprofit sector through its programmes, supporting leaders with training, digital tools, and capacity development to create real, measurable change in their communities.
