1. Purpose

CKG is committed to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all staff, volunteers, beneficiaries, and visitors by establishing a safe working environment and promoting health awareness throughout our activities.


2. Scope

This policy applies to all CKG staff, volunteers, contractors, partners, and anyone involved in CKG operations across all sites, including program locations in Delft and Engcobo.


3. Policy Statement

  • We strive to prevent accidents, injuries, and illnesses through proactive safety measures.
  • We promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being for everyone engaged with CKG.
  • We comply with all applicable occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
  • We encourage open communication and continuous improvement in safety and health practices.

4. Responsibilities

4.1 Management

  • Ensure resources, training, and equipment are provided to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Respond promptly to health and safety incidents and implement corrective actions.

4.2 Staff and Volunteers

  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediately.
  • Participate in health and safety training programs.
  • Use protective equipment and tools as required.

4.3 Visitors and Contractors

  • Comply with CKG’s safety and health guidelines while on premises.
  • Report any safety concerns to CKG management.

5. Health and Safety Procedures

5.1 Risk Assessment

  • Regularly identify and evaluate potential hazards in workplaces and program sites.
  • Implement control measures to minimize risks.

5.2 Emergency Preparedness

  • Maintain clear evacuation plans, first aid kits, and emergency contact lists.
  • Train staff and volunteers on emergency response and first aid.

5.3 Incident Reporting and Investigation

  • All accidents, injuries, or near misses must be reported immediately.
  • Investigate incidents to determine causes and prevent recurrence.

5.4 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Provide and require use of PPE relevant to specific tasks (e.g., gloves, masks, boots).
  • Train staff and volunteers on proper PPE use.

5.5 Health Promotion

  • Promote wellness programs including HIV/AIDS awareness, mental health support, and disease prevention.
  • Encourage regular health check-ups and healthy lifestyle practices.

6. COVID-19 and Infectious Disease Protocols

  • Follow government and health authority guidelines to prevent and control COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
  • Promote hygiene practices like handwashing, sanitizing, and mask-wearing as appropriate.
