1. Background and Rationale

Raising a child with special needs presents unique challenges. Many mothers experience social isolation, lack of information, limited access to services, emotional burnout, and financial stress. These challenges are often compounded by limited community support and stigma.

CKG, based in South Africa, recognizes the vital role that mothers play in the care and development of their children. This Capacity Building and Training Program is designed to equip mothers with the skills, knowledge, networks, and emotional resilience they need to effectively support their children and themselves.


2. Program Goals and Objectives

Goal:

To build the capacity of mothers of children with special needs to advocate for their children, access services, manage stress, and promote inclusion and well-being within their families and communities.

Objectives:

  1. Education and Awareness: Enhance knowledge of various types of disabilities, early intervention, and available resources.
  2. Skills Development: Equip participants with caregiving skills, advocacy techniques, and stress management strategies.
  3. Support Network Creation: Foster peer support and community networks among participating mothers.
  4. Economic Empowerment (Optional Module): Introduce income-generating skills for sustainable self-support.
