SayPro CEO Neftaly Malatjie Urges Financial Discipline at SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs

Southern Africa Youth Project Headquarters, 24–26 June 2025

During the SayPro Capacity Building Training for NPOs, held from 24 to 26 June 2025 at the Southern Africa Youth Project headquarters, SayPro CEO and Leader of Development Neftaly Malatjie delivered a powerful reminder to nonprofit organizations about the importance of responsible financial management.

In his address to over 100 NPO leaders and practitioners, Malatjie stated:
“Let’s not spend money because you have money.”

This remark was part of a broader conversation about sustainability and accountability in the nonprofit sector, especially as many organizations face increasing scrutiny from donors, regulators, and communities they serve.

Promoting Financial Responsibility

Malatjie’s message was clear: having access to funds should not lead to careless or impulsive spending. Instead, he encouraged nonprofit leaders to adopt long-term financial strategies, focused budgeting, and transparent reporting to ensure their resources go further and deliver greater impact.

“Every rand spent must be justifiable and linked directly to your mission,” Malatjie explained. “NPOs must avoid the temptation to use funds loosely simply because they are available. Our communities deserve better.”

Equipping NPOs for Sustainable Growth

Throughout the three-day event, the SayPro Capacity Building Programme provided participants with hands-on training in nonprofit governance, compliance with the NPO Act, financial planning, and resource mobilization. The programme emphasized building resilient organizations capable of managing funding effectively and scaling their operations responsibly.

One of the participants from a community upliftment project in Gauteng said, “The financial management session changed the way I see our organization’s budget. It’s not just numbers—it’s our future.”

A Call for Intentional Leadership

As the event concluded, Malatjie reiterated that strong leadership includes the ability to make tough decisions when it comes to finances.
“Let’s be intentional about every cent we spend. The goal isn’t just to survive, but to create lasting, measurable change.”
